Activity Description:
-
Two teams are playing
against each other in the attempt to score more points than the other team.
-
Each team has one 'goalie'
who may move anywhere along the endline as long as he/she stays behind
this line.
-
To score, players must
pass the ball up the court and to the goalie; if the goalie catches the
ball behind the endline, a point is awarded.
|
Rules:
-
Passes must be short
(no lob passes), underhand passes.
-
Each player on the team
must touch the ball before a point can be awarded.
-
Defenders may not touch
the ball carrier or try to steal the ball away; the role of the defender
is simply to prevent the opponent from making a successful pass.
-
After a point is won,
a new goalie must take the place of the current goalie.
|
Teaching Points:
-
Players will need to
move to an open space in order to receive a pass.
-
Players should communicate
with each other, letting ball carriers know who and where to pass to.
-
Short, quick passes
will be more successful than long, lob passes.
|
Organization Points:
-
Keep teams as small
as possible (keeping space considerations in mind); for example, for a
class of 30, run three games (using pilons or prevalent lines to mark off
fields of play) of 5-on-5 (4-on-4 with one goalie per team).
